UFBA Biotechnology Postgraduate Degree Program started with the implementation of the Academic Master's degree course in 2010; followed by the Doctorate´s degree course in 2016. This program followed the creation of BSc honors’ degree course in Biotechnology (2009).
This young and vibrant program is showing a consistent lead among others around the country in terms of the number of patented work requests on processes and products and through the publication of several scientific articles of significant national and international impact.
The Brazilian National Education Agency first evaluated the program in the period between 2010 and 2013 and, since then, the course was awarded with the level 4-CAPES.
This program has attended and/or provided several services to the community of the State of Bahia by means of specific interaction with the Laboratories of Immunology, Acarology, Virology, Photonics and Environmental and Industrial Microbiology. For instance, our researchers were the first to alert Brazil and the World about the presence of the Zika virus in the national territory. They have produced excellent contributions in the areas of diagnosis and disease treatment and relevant tools for industrial and environmental applications.
